The project direct applications will contribute to the improvement in the quality of life of people living in contaminated zones downstream mining areas. It is well known that nobody is currently dealing to the contamination outside a small distance around the project area, except for the direct contamination of the river bed. It is proved that there are groundwater and soil hotspot at large distance for the mining areas, due to a combination of hydrological and geomorphological processes. Predicting the location of these hotspots will help the public authorities to conceive economic instrument for helping these people, for internalising these environmental externalities in the mining business, for making more socially responsible the mining companies.

The remediation eco-technology compared to existing methods is that will allow the use of smaller quantities of uncontaminated soil for the remediation of tailing dams. This will reduce the costs, and also will reduce the impact of remediation projects on the areas providing the clean soil for remediation.

The environmental service for evaluating the stock of metals is cheaper than the existing ones because it extensively use geophysical methods. The other environmental services are a new generation of such services useful hazard assessment, risk assessment, impact assessment, but also for tracing back the causes of and responsibilities for pollution hotspots found far from mining areas. Such tools are simply missing. Not least, services for assisting the integration of monitoring systems of soil, water, etc. in contaminated river basin in order to optimise the ratio between the relevant information obtained and the associated costs are also missing.

The project will provide instruments for the transition from a conflict paradigm in the relations between stakeholders to a cooperation one with right share of responsibilities and costs for monitoring and management.
